Linux System and Network Administration

This bootcamp is a fast-paced course and assumes basic understanding of UNIX. There is substantial lecture work with continuous hands-on training.

The class is complemented by our e-learning website and access to our instructors before and after the class.

The following is a high-level plan for your two days:

Day One
9:00 - 9:30 AM	Intro to Linux certification process Review of Pre-Read material Linux commands System Orientation
9:30 - 10:30 AM	Admin1: Installation, Package management: RPM and Deb, File Locations, X, General Admin tasks, Users and Groups management
10:40 - 12:15 PM	Networking 1: Fundamentals, Ethernet, TCP/IP. Client side configuration.
12:15 - 1:30 PM	Lunch
1:30 - 3:00 PM	Development Environment: Make, Compiling, BinUtils, Scripting, Perl, application management, fixing shared library issues
3:15 - 5:30 PM	Kernel and Boot Loaders: Kernel modules, building a kernel, patching, kernel troubleshooting, panic states Homework reading assignment

Day Two
9:00 - 10:20 AM	Networking 2: xinetd, /etc/services, Services overview: nfs, http, lpd, mail, sendmail, dns, samba
10:30 - 12:15 PM	Admin 2: Boot/init, shutdown, runlevels, process priorities, automation, backup
12:15 - 1:30 PM	Lunch
1:30 - 3:00 PM	Security: Managing user accounts and user level security. Managing program access. Managing network security
3:10 - 4:30 PM	Hardware devices, /proc
4:30 - 5:30 PM	Questions, Post read topics, Closing Homework reading assignment

Prerequisites

The bootcamp is a fast paced course and assumes basic understanding of computers. If you have worked on any flavor of UNIX (Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX etc.) as a user (not necessarily as an administrator), or have done some system administration on Windows NT, you will find the course to be accessible. Most of all you will need a motivation to aggressively learn, while having fun, during the class. Certification Track

If you are preparing for Linux certification, this course covers objectives of following certifications:

* LPI Level 1 (Exam 1 and Exam 2)
* Linux+
* Sair Linux and GNU level I certificates

Pre Read

The following objectives are to be prepared before the bootcamp:

* Getting comfortable with Unix command line
* Text editing and processing (using vi)

FEE : $1499 (includes all class materials and Linux laptop). This class is also available without the option of the laptop for $999.

Laptop (see specs), you will configure Linux on during the class and take it home with you for enhancing your experience with Linux!!
